If you are in Ashaiman and want day-old chicks, Agro Prime Ghana supplies them from our working hatchery in Kasoa, along with point-of-lay pullets and poultry feed, and we arrange delivery to Ashaiman and the surrounding Greater Accra communities. You order by WhatsApp, we confirm the breed, the hatch date and the delivery arrangements, and the birds travel to you from Kasoa. Ashaiman is a dense, busy market town in a district of more than 200,000 people, sitting right beside Tema, and it is full of households and small farms that keep birds for eggs and meat. The chicks you start with decide how the whole batch turns out. Strong, vaccinated day-old stock from a hatchery you can trace back to its source is the place to start. Message us on WhatsApp, or book a visit to see the birds before you commit.

What Ashaiman buyers can get from us

Ashaiman is a municipality in its own right, the capital of the Ashaiman Municipal District in the Greater Accra Region. The 2021 census put the population of the town and district together at 208,060, which makes it a large urban community in the Accra–Tema belt. That density is one reason poultry matters here: many households keep a few birds in the yard, and small commercial farmers also run flocks on the edge of town.

From the Kasoa hatchery, we supply three main products to Ashaiman buyers:

  • Day-old broiler chicks (Cobb 500, Ross 308 and similar) for meat.
  • Day-old layer chicks for building an egg flock. These are the cheapest birds per head, but they need around 18 to 20 weeks before they start to lay.
  • Point-of-lay pullets for buyers who want eggs within weeks, not months. They cost more per bird but save the brooding and rearing period.

Feed is available alongside your order; see our store and tell us the stage your birds are at.

Why Ashaiman matters to a poultry buyer

Ashaiman sits in one of the most consumer-heavy corners of Ghana. The big chicken market is not local: the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service report on Ghana's poultry sector (GAIN GH2021-0010, 25 January 2022) estimated that Ghana consumed about 400,000 metric tonnes of chicken in 2021, while domestic production was only about 50,000 tonnes. Imports filled most of the gap, and the same report forecast imports rising towards 400,000 tonnes in 2022. Ghana's main port at Tema is right next door to Ashaiman, which means the imported chicken that fills Ghana's markets is a constant presence on this side of Accra.

That gap is the opening for a local farmer. The chart below shows the import trend the USDA report describes.

How to order from Kasoa for delivery to Ashaiman

Because the hatchery is in Kasoa and not in Ashaiman, the order process is built around a short message first, so we can plan the batch and the transport properly:

  • 1. Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503). Say you want delivery to Ashaiman and give your area if you know it.
  • 2. Tell us what you need: the breed or product, the number of birds, and the date you want them.
  • 3. We confirm the details: the next available hatch or stock, today's price for your order, and the delivery arrangement and timing to Ashaiman.
  • 4. Reserve and pay once you are happy with the terms. The price is agreed before the birds leave Kasoa.
  • 5. Receive your birds at the agreed point, with the brooder already warm and ready.

Reserving ahead matters. Chicks hatch in batches, so a few days' notice lets us reserve the breed and numbers you want. If you are buying for a festive period, when many households order broilers at the same time, message us earlier rather than later.

Delivery from Kasoa to Ashaiman

We arrange transport from our Kasoa hatchery to Ashaiman and the Greater Accra communities around it. We are not promising a fixed delivery price or time here, because the route runs through the Accra traffic and the cost depends on the size of your order and the day it travels. When you message us, we will confirm delivery to your part of Ashaiman, the expected timing and the cost, before we load anything.

Day-old chicks are delicate, so the journey is planned around them. Birds should travel in ventilated boxes, and the goal is to get them into a warm, dry brooder as soon as they arrive. Our chick delivery guide explains what to look for when your birds arrive, including how to check their condition and what to do if something looks wrong.

Prefer to see the stock first? Book a visit to the Kasoa hatchery.

Get your brooder ready before the birds arrive

The first week decides most of a batch's result. Have the following in place before your chicks land:

  • A clean, dry brooder with a bed of wood shavings and a brooder ring to keep the chicks close to the heat.
  • A tested heat source (gas brooder, heat lamp or bulbs) already holding the right temperature.
  • Clean drinkers with fresh water, and feeders ready with starter feed.
  • Protection from rodents, cats and wild birds, and ventilation without draughts.

Our brooding guide and brooder temperature chart set out the temperatures week by week. In a busy town, keep the brooder away from dust and fumes.

Choosing the right breed or product for your plan

For meat, Cobb 500 and Ross 308 are the most widely used commercial broilers. Both are built for fast growth and efficient feed use, and both reward good brooding and steady feeding. Our Cobb 500 guide and Ross 308 guide cover what to expect week by week.

For eggs, a brown layer such as Lohmann Brown is a well-suited choice. If you have the patience to raise birds from day one, layer chicks give you the lowest cost per bird. If you want eggs sooner, point-of-lay pullets get you there within a few weeks. Our Lohmann Brown guide explains the rearing and laying stages. For a tougher, dual-purpose bird on a semi-free-range setup, ask us about cockerels and other options.

Honest pricing guidance

We do not publish a fixed price on this page, because the price of day-old chicks, pullets and feed moves with breed, season, order size and the cost of feed. Feed is the big factor. The USDA report cited above put feeding costs at almost 80 per cent of the total cost of production in Ghana, and the cost of maize and soybean meal has moved sharply in recent years. A price quoted in a guide like this one would go out of date quickly, and we would rather give you a number that is correct on the day you order.

What we can do is give you the factors that move the price, so you know what to ask: breed and product type, the number of birds, the stage of the birds (chicks, growers or point-of-lay), the feed you need alongside them, and the delivery arrangement. Message us with those and we will send you today's quote on WhatsApp.

Ashaiman buyers: get today's price

Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) with your breed, quantity and delivery area in Ashaiman, and we will send today's price and the delivery terms. Prefer to see the birds first? Book a visit to the Kasoa hatchery and we will walk you through the options.

Why buy from a working hatchery

Buying from a working hatchery means you know where your birds came from and how they were handled from hatch. Our chicks are vaccinated, and we will advise you on the vaccination schedule to continue once they are with you. You also get direct access to people who raise these birds every day.

For buyers who plan to grow a flock over time, the hatchery relationship matters as much as the first order. If you are weighing a larger operation, our partner and invest page explains how we work with bigger farms. Our starting a poultry farm guide sets out the steps, and our broiler feeding guide and layer feeding guide cover what your birds need at each stage. If you are also reaching Accra buyers, our Accra page covers the city side of the same market.

The bottom line

Ashaiman is a dense, busy town next to Tema with a real appetite for poultry, and it is well placed for a small flock or a growing commercial batch. Agro Prime Ghana supplies vaccinated day-old broiler and layer chicks, point-of-lay pullets and feed from our Kasoa hatchery, and we arrange delivery to Ashaiman. Message us on WhatsApp for today's price and delivery terms, and we will have your order planned around your date.

Frequently asked questions

How much do day-old chicks cost in Ashaiman?
Prices depend on breed, quantity, season and the cost of feed, so we give you today's price when you message us rather than printing a figure that would go out of date. Send us your breed and quantity on WhatsApp and we will quote.
Do you deliver to Ashaiman?
Yes, we arrange transport from our Kasoa hatchery to Ashaiman. Before anything leaves, we confirm the delivery arrangement, the expected timing and the cost for your area, so there are no surprises on the day.
Is there a hatchery branch in Ashaiman?
No. Agro Prime Ghana runs its hatchery in Kasoa, and we supply Ashaiman from there. Visits are arranged at the Kasoa hatchery, and you can book a visit to see the birds before you buy.
What is the minimum order?
We serve both small home flocks and larger commercial batches. Tell us how many birds you want on WhatsApp and we will confirm what fits the next hatch.
Are the chicks vaccinated?
Yes, our chicks are vaccinated. We will advise you on the vaccination schedule to continue after the birds reach you, because the follow-up programme depends on your area and your flock plan.
Should I buy layer chicks or point-of-lay pullets?
Layer chicks cost less per bird but take around 18 to 20 weeks to start laying. Point-of-lay pullets cost more but start laying within a few weeks of arrival. If you want eggs sooner and less rearing work, choose pullets. If you can raise birds from day one and want the lowest cost, choose chicks.
How far ahead should I reserve?
Chicks hatch in batches, so a few days to a couple of weeks' notice lets us reserve your breed and numbers for the date you need. Give us more notice during festive periods, when many households order broilers at the same time.
What if some chicks die in transit?
We pack and move chicks with care, but losses can still happen on a journey. Tell us as soon as the birds arrive, with the numbers and any concerns, and we will talk through what happened and how we can make it right. Keep your brooder ready so the chicks can settle quickly.
