If you are looking for day-old chicks in Accra — broilers for meat or layers for eggs — Agro Prime Ghana supplies healthy, vaccinated chicks, point-of-lay pullets and quality feed, and arranges delivery to farms and homes right across the Greater Accra Region. We are a working hatchery based in Kasoa, a short run west of the capital, so getting stock to Accra, Tema, Madina, Adenta, Ashaiman or out toward Dodowa and Amasaman is quick and routine for us. Accra is Ghana's biggest chicken market by far, which is exactly why local supply matters: nearly all the chicken eaten here is imported frozen, and the farmers who do well are the ones who start with strong chicks, the right breed and feed they can trust. Whether you keep a hundred birds behind the house in Teshie or run a few thousand broilers on the Accra–Dodowa road, the first decision — where your chicks come from — is the one that shapes the whole batch. Message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm what is available and sort delivery to your part of Accra.
From the Agro Prime Ghana team — a working hatchery in Kasoa supplying day-old chicks, point-of-lay pullets and feed across Ghana. Last updated October 2025.
Quick answer
Agro Prime supplies day-old broiler chicks (Cobb 500, Ross 308 and similar), day-old layer chicks, point-of-lay pullets and poultry feed to buyers across Greater Accra. Order on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503), tell us the breed, quantity and your location, and we will confirm current price and arrange delivery from our Kasoa hatchery — or you can book a visit to see the birds before you buy. We do not run a shop inside Accra; we deliver to you.
What you can buy for your Accra farm
Three things move most for Accra customers, and each suits a different plan:
- Day-old broiler chicks — for meat. These are fast-growing commercial strains (Cobb 500, Ross 308 and comparable lines) that reach market weight in roughly six weeks on good feed. Best for anyone selling live or dressed birds into Accra's restaurants, hotels, chop bars and festive-season demand.
- Day-old layer chicks — for eggs. You raise them from a day old through brooding and growing before they start laying at around 18–20 weeks. Best if you want to build your own flock cheaply and have the patience for the longer runway.
- Point-of-lay (POL) pullets — near-ready layers, roughly 16–18 weeks old, that start producing eggs within a few weeks of arriving. Best for anyone in Accra who wants eggs sooner and would rather skip the risky brooding stage.
We also supply feed — broiler starter, grower and finisher, and layer mash — so you can keep the whole batch on consistent nutrition instead of chasing different suppliers. You can see the current product line in our store, and we will always confirm what is in stock when you message.
Why local supply matters in Accra
Accra is the heart of Ghana's chicken demand, and that demand is enormous. According to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service Ghana poultry report (GAIN GH2021-0010, January 2022), Ghana consumed roughly 400,000 tonnes of chicken meat in 2021, but domestic production was only about 50,000 tonnes — and the report notes that locally raised broilers meet only around 2% of demand, with imports supplying close to 87% of what Ghanaians eat. Most of that imported chicken lands and sells through Accra and Tema.
That gap is the opportunity. Fresh, locally raised chicken is prized in Accra — many buyers pay a premium for it over frozen imports — and the farmers who capture that market are the ones who start with reliable chicks and raise them well. You cannot fix a poor start with good feed later, so the chick decision is where the margin begins.

Broilers, layers or pullets — which fits your Accra plan?
Use this to decide before you message us. It is a decision guide, not a price list — for today's prices, message us on WhatsApp.
| Product | What it's for | Time to return | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day-old broiler chicks | Meat — live or dressed sales | ~6 weeks to market weight | Fast cash cycles, festive demand, restaurant supply |
| Day-old layer chicks | Eggs — building your own flock | ~18–20 weeks to first eggs | Lowest cost per bird, long-term egg business |
| Point-of-lay pullets | Eggs — fast start | Eggs within a few weeks | Skipping brooding, quicker egg income |
| Cockerels | Meat — hardy, slower | Several months | Lower-input, free-range style rearing |
If you are brand new, many Accra starters begin with a small broiler batch to learn the rhythm of brooding, feeding and biosecurity on a short cycle, then move into layers or pullets once they are confident. Our guide to starting a poultry farm in Ghana walks through that path.
How to order day-old chicks in Accra
Ordering is simple and runs through WhatsApp so we can confirm everything before your birds travel:
- 1. Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503).
- 2. Tell us the breed (broiler or layer, and any strain preference), the quantity, and your delivery area in Accra — for example Spintex, Kasoa, Amasaman, Oyarifa or Tema.
- 3. We confirm current price, availability and the next hatch or pickup date.
- 4. Arrange delivery or pickup — we will quote delivery to your location, or you can collect from Kasoa.
- 5. Prepare your brooder so it is warm and ready before the chicks arrive.
Day-old chicks are hatched to order in batches, so the earlier you tell us your date and numbers, the better we can line them up for you — especially around Christmas and Easter when demand across Accra peaks.
Ready to order chicks for your Accra farm?
Tell us what you need and where you are — "200 broilers to Adenta next week", "50 point-of-lay pullets to Tema" — and we will confirm price, the next available date and delivery. Message WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) or book a visit to our Kasoa hatchery to see the birds and feed first-hand.
Delivery and transport from Kasoa to Accra
Here is the honest picture: we do not keep a branch or shop inside Accra. We are a hatchery in Kasoa, which sits just across the Central Region boundary on the Accra–Cape Coast road — in practice, a short drive from Weija, Mallam, Kaneshie and the western edge of the city. Because of that, delivery into Greater Accra is one of the easiest runs we make. We arrange transport of day-old chicks, pullets and feed to Accra and surrounding towns, and we will confirm the delivery cost and timing for your specific location when you message. Many Accra customers also find it quick to collect from Kasoa themselves, especially for smaller orders.
Day-old chicks travel best in the cool of early morning, in ventilated chick boxes, and should go straight under the brooder on arrival. For longer or warmer trips we plan timing carefully to keep the birds calm and hydrated. See our day-old chick delivery guide for how we handle transport and what to check on arrival.
What to prepare before your chicks arrive
Day-old chicks cannot regulate their own body heat, so a warm, clean, draught-free brooder is non-negotiable. Have this ready the day before:
- A clean brooder area with dry litter (wood shavings), walls or a brooder ring to keep chicks near the heat.
- A heat source — gas brooder, heat lamp or bulbs — tested and holding the right temperature.
- Clean drinkers with fresh water (add a little glucose or vitamins for the first hours), and feeders with starter feed or crumbs.
- Good ventilation without cold draughts, and a plan to keep rodents, cats and wild birds out.
Our brooding guide and brooder temperature chart give exact temperatures week by week. Getting the first 7–10 days right is the single biggest thing you control.
Choosing the right breed for Accra conditions
For meat, the two commercial broiler strains most Accra farmers ask for are Cobb 500 and Ross 308. Both are fast-growing, efficient birds bred for high meat yield; the chart above shows their published target weights, and in practice the choice often comes down to availability and what your buyers prefer. Our Cobb 500 guide and Ross 308 guide compare them in Ghanaian conditions.
For eggs, Lohmann Brown and similar brown layers are the workhorses — hardy, reliable and well suited to Ghana's climate, laying well past a year once they come into production. If you want a tougher, dual-purpose bird for a more free-range setup, ask us about options like the Noiler and local-adapted cockerels. Our best chicken breeds for Ghana guide breaks down the trade-offs.
Honest pricing guidance
We will not quote you a fixed figure on this page, because chick, pullet and feed prices move with breed, season, order size and input costs — and the price of maize and soybean feed in particular has swung sharply in recent years. The USDA report above noted that feed makes up almost 80% of poultry production cost in Ghana, and that prepared feed prices rose dramatically between 2019 and 2021. That is why we quote live: message us for today's price rather than relying on an out-of-date number. What we can promise is a straight, current quote for the breed and quantity you want, delivered to your part of Accra — no inflated "city markup", because you are buying direct from the hatchery.

Why buy from a working hatchery
Plenty of people in Accra will sell you chicks. The difference with buying direct from a hatchery is traceability and support: you know where the birds came from, you get chicks that are vaccinated and handled properly from hatch, and you get a supplier who will pick up the phone when something looks off in your brooder. We raise, supply and advise — so if your chicks go quiet or your feed conversion looks wrong, you have someone to ask. That after-sale advice is often worth more than the chicks themselves to a first-time farmer.
The bottom line
Accra is the best chicken market in Ghana and one of the hardest to lose money in if you start right. Decide whether you want meat (broilers), eggs the slow way (layer chicks) or eggs fast (point-of-lay pullets), get your brooder ready, and buy vaccinated chicks from a hatchery that will support you. We are close by in Kasoa, we deliver across Greater Accra, and we are a message away.
