The best day-old chicks supplier in Ghana for you is the one that matches your product and can answer your questions in writing. Choose between broiler chicks, layer chicks and point-of-lay pullets first, then compare suppliers on the same five things: source, vaccination, advice, delivery and traceability. Agro Prime Ghana supplies day-old broiler and layer chicks from its working hatchery in Kasoa, along with point-of-lay pullets and feed, and we will answer the same questions we suggest you ask anyone else. This page gives you a method for comparing suppliers fairly, including the breeder figures that show what a good batch should be working towards.

Quick answer
Pick your product first: broiler chicks for meat on a short cycle, layer chicks for eggs over a longer period, or point-of-lay pullets if you want to skip most of the brooding. Then ask each supplier the same questions in writing, covering breed and age on delivery, vaccination, advice, delivery terms and source. Agro Prime Ghana runs a working hatchery in Kasoa and will answer those questions for your order. Message WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) with your product, quantity and town for a current quote.
Start with the product you need
The best supplier depends on what you are raising. Broiler chicks are kept for meat over a short cycle, so the key question is how the batch will perform at market age. Layer chicks are brooded and reared before they lay, so the questions shift to the layer line, the rearing programme and when the birds move to the laying house. Point-of-lay pullets are already close to laying, which saves you the brooding period but usually means you pay more per bird. The age on the day of delivery, and the feed and vaccination history, matter more for pullets than for chicks.

Compare supplier types honestly
Buyers generally choose from one of three sources: a hatchery that rears its own birds, an intermediary who resells birds, or a farm that sells from its own flock. Each can work. The question is which checks each one needs from you.
| Supplier type | What you gain | What you must check |
|---|---|---|
| Own working hatchery (the route Agro Prime offers) | You can ask the people who hatched and reared the birds about breed, age, feed and vaccination | The records for your batch, the delivery terms and the age on the day of delivery |
| Intermediary or reseller | Convenience, and sometimes a wider range of products | The original source of the birds, their age, and whether the vaccination record exists and matches the batch |
| Farm selling from its own flock | You can often see the house, the birds and the feed in person | Whether the flock is healthy overall, the breed name, and the terms for transport and losses |
Whichever type you choose, the strongest check is to see the stock yourself. Our advice is to visit any supplier you are seriously considering, and that includes us.
Use the same questions for every quote
Quotes only compare fairly when the requests are the same. Give each supplier the same breed, quantity, delivery town and date. Then ask each one the same questions: which breed and line, what age the birds will be on the day they leave, which vaccines are given and when, what feed they have had, whether the batch is from a single hatch, and how losses in transit are handled. A cheaper quote with an unknown age or no vaccination record is not a cheaper chick. It is an unknown one.
Ask for the answers in writing. A supplier that answers clearly will not mind putting them on paper, and a supplier that will not is telling you something useful.
What the breeder figures tell you about feed
Feed is a major cost in any broiler flock, so the feed conversion target matters. Feed conversion is the feed a flock eats for each unit of weight it gains. The 2022 Cobb 500 and Aviagen Ross 308 performance objectives give cumulative feed conversion at day 42 of 1.50 for male Ross 308, 1.53 for male Cobb 500 and 1.59 for female Cobb 500. A lower figure means less feed for the same weight gain, all else being equal.
Keep three cautions in mind. These are breeder targets, measured under the breeder's own conditions, not guarantees for your farm. Cobb states that its feed conversion figure does not account for broiler mortality, so a batch that loses birds can look worse than its target even when the feed is used well. And the two documents are not necessarily measured the same way, so the chart is a guide to what to ask, not a league table.

What good performance looks like at each stage
A supplier who knows its batch will know the weights it should reach at each age. Ask for those figures, and for the breeder objectives your batch is being managed to. For male Cobb 500 birds, the objective is 1,904 g at day 28, 2,694 g at day 35 and 3,503 g at day 42. For female Cobb 500 birds, it is 1,662 g at day 28, 2,348 g at day 35 and 3,052 g at day 42. Use these as reference points when you check your flock, and check your own weighing method against the breeder's, so you compare like with like.
Ask your supplier whether the batch is sexed or mixed, because that changes what you should expect at market age. Our guide to choosing healthy day-old chicks covers the on-arrival checks that give your flock the best start.
Layer and pullet buyers: plan the house before you order
If you are buying layer chicks or point-of-lay pullets, the source matters as much as the timing. Point-of-lay birds that are moved too late or kept on the wrong feed can take longer to settle and start laying. Ask the supplier when the birds were moved to the laying house, what feed they have been on, and what lighting programme they have had. Have the laying house clean, dry and ready before the birds arrive, with feeders, drinkers and the right feed on hand.

How to shortlist and then decide
- Pick your product and quantity. Broiler chicks, layer chicks or pullets, and roughly how many birds you need for the date you want.
- Ask at least two suppliers the same questions in writing, including the breed and line, age on delivery, vaccination record and delivery terms.
- Visit or ask for proof. Where you can, see the stock and the house. Where you cannot, ask for the records for your batch.
- Compare the answers, not the price alone. Put the quotes side by side with the same breed, age, quantity and terms.
- Agree the terms before you pay, including what happens to birds lost in transit.
Why price alone will mislead you
Prices in Ghana vary with breed, season, order size and delivery distance, and a quote that looks low can hide a younger batch, a missing vaccination record or delivery terms you have not seen. We do not publish prices on this page, because a price printed here would go stale and could be compared with the wrong batch. Ask any supplier for a current quote on the same specification, and check that the specification matches before you compare figures.
