If you need day-old chicks in Dormaa Ahenkro or anywhere in the Dormaa area, Agro Prime Ghana supplies healthy broiler and layer chicks, point-of-lay (POL) pullets, cockerels and quality feed, and arranges delivery from our hatchery in Kasoa. You order on WhatsApp, we confirm the breed, the date and a delivery plan to Dormaa before any payment, and your birds travel in ventilated chick boxes. Dormaa Ahenkro is the royal seat of the Dormaahene, and Graphic Online has described the area as Ghana's egg city. Poultry farming runs deep here, and so does competition from cheap imported chicken and eggs, along with high feed costs. That makes the quality of the chick and the discipline of your feeding the two things that decide who makes money. Message us for the breeds we have ready and a current quote.

From the Agro Prime Ghana team — a working hatchery in Kasoa supplying day-old chicks, point-of-lay pullets and feed across Ghana. Last updated October 2026.

Quick answer

We sell day-old broiler chicks (fast meat birds), day-old layer chicks, point-of-lay pullets (about 16–18 weeks old and close to laying), cockerels, and feed. This suits Dormaa and Dormaa East farmers, from first-timers to established producers. To order, message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) with your breed, quantity, delivery town and preferred week. We confirm availability, a current price and a delivery plan to Dormaa before you commit. We are based in Kasoa and arrange transport to the Bono region, so we confirm the cost and timing for your town when you order.

Dormaa Ahenkro: a poultry town with a long memory

Dormaa Ahenkro sits in the Dormaa Central Municipal area of the Bono Region, a short distance from Sunyani, the regional capital. In September 2025, Graphic Online reported that the Dormaa area holds the top spot in Ghana's poultry industry and is the country's leading egg producer. The same report quoted a local leader on how many farmers keep poultry in the area, and said the Dormaa Poultry Farmers Association has more than 300 registered members. These are local reporting, not official census figures.

The Dormaa Central Municipal area also borders Asunafo North, where our Goaso page covers the Ahafo side of the same farming belt. If you buy from Dormaa, you are buying into a market where experienced growers, feed sellers and buyers all know what a good chick looks like, and you will be judged on your birds' results.

The honest picture: imports, feed costs and bird flu

Dormaa's strength is also its pressure point, and we would rather say so plainly. Ghana has relied heavily on imported chicken for years. The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service reported that imports of chicken meat were 295,000 metric tonnes in 2020 and an estimated 350,000 in 2021, while domestic chicken meat output was 58,000 tonnes in 2020 and an estimated 50,000 in 2021. The same report noted that spent layers make up more than 90 percent of domestic chicken meat, and that domestic broiler production meets only about two percent of demand. Farmers in Dormaa told Graphic that cheap imported poultry products are cutting into their profits, and some have struggled to find buyers during periods of oversupply.

Feed is the other big pressure. The USDA report says feed accounts for almost 80 percent of production cost. A February 2025 FoodBusinessMEA report described feed prices rising sharply over the past several years and said high feed costs are a major hurdle for farmers. That is why feed efficiency, getting more weight or more eggs from every bag, matters so much here.

Disease also matters. In January 2022, the Ghana News Agency reported that more than 9,470 birds and 780 crates of eggs were affected by avian influenza on two farms in the Bono Region, and that the affected birds and eggs were destroyed. That is a reminder to keep strict biosecurity on any farm: clean footwear, controlled visitors and a quick call to the vet if birds turn sick.

How to order day-old chicks for Dormaa

Ordering takes a few messages. We would rather confirm everything in writing before anything moves:

  • Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) with the breed you want (broiler, layer, POL or cockerel), your quantity, your delivery town (Dormaa Ahenkro, Wamfie or another town in the area) and the week you want the birds.
  • We confirm availability and a current price. Hatching runs to a schedule, so the sooner you ask, the better your chance of the breed and week you want. We do not quote prices here because they change with breed, season and order size.
  • We agree the delivery plan. We arrange transport from Kasoa toward the Bono region and confirm the cost and timing for Dormaa when you order. Ask us whether collecting from Kasoa is an option for your batch.
  • You confirm and we dispatch. We will tell you our payment terms on WhatsApp, and we will walk you through receiving the birds so they settle quickly.

If you are new to brooding, read our guide on how to brood day-old chicks in Ghana before the order arrives.

Planning a batch for the Dormaa market?

Tell us when you want birds on the market and we will help you work backwards: the chick date, the feed you will need at each stage, and when to sell. Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503), or book a visit if you want to talk it through in person.

Delivery to Dormaa Ahenkro and the Bono region

Our hatchery is in Kasoa, so Dormaa is a long road trip. We arrange transport to Dormaa and the wider Bono region, but we do not promise a fixed delivery price or day until we have your order details. When you message us, we will confirm the cost, the route and the timing for your exact town, and we will tell you what to expect if the road or the weather causes a delay.

Chicks travel in ventilated boxes, and the journey is the most stressful part of their first days. Before you order, make sure someone is ready to receive the birds at the other end, with a clean, warm brooder, feed and clean water already in place.

What to prepare before your chicks arrive

Most early losses come from a poor brooder, not a poor chick. Before delivery day, we recommend you have the following ready:

  • A brooder that is clean, dry, draught-free and disinfected, with bedding laid down.
  • Heat sources set up and tested. Use our brooder temperature chart to set the right temperature for the first week.
  • Feeders and drinkers filled and placed where the chicks can reach them easily.
  • Starter feed on hand, so the chicks eat as soon as they are placed.
  • A simple biosecurity routine: limit visitors, keep footwear clean, and call a vet at the first sign of sickness, especially after the bird flu outbreaks reported in the Bono region in 2022.

Choosing the right breed or product for your farm

The right choice depends on what you want to sell and how much time you can give the birds. Broilers turn over fastest, but they reward careful feeding and a strict weight schedule. Our Cobb 500 broiler guide explains how a fast-growing bird behaves week by week. Layers take longer to pay back, but they give steady egg income once they start laying, and they are the better choice if you plan a long-term egg business. Our layer feeding guide covers the rations that matter most during rearing and at point of lay.

If you are not sure which to pick, tell us what you are aiming for and what market you will sell into. We will tell you honestly which breed and product we think fits, and we will say so if a different route makes more sense for your space and budget.

Honest pricing guidance

We do not publish prices on this page, and we will not give you a figure that we cannot back up. Day-old chick prices move with breed, season, the number of birds on the order and the cost of feed and inputs. Feed makes up most of the cost of production: the USDA report cited above puts it at almost 80 percent, so feed prices feed straight into the economics of every flock.

When you message us on WhatsApp, we will give you a current quote for the breed, quantity and delivery you need, with the transport cost for Dormaa made clear. If you are budgeting, ask us to walk through the full cost per bird, including feed, brooding, vaccines and delivery, so the numbers you plan with are complete.

Why buy from a working hatchery

Agro Prime Ghana runs a working poultry hatchery in Kasoa. That matters because you are buying from the source, not from a middleman who has held the birds for an unknown time. We supply day-old chicks, point-of-lay pullets and feed, and we give advice on rearing. When you order, ask us exactly what vaccination your chicks have received and what schedule we recommend, so you can plan the first weeks correctly. We are also happy to show you the hatchery on a visit. Book one on our booking page if you want to see how we work before you order.

If you are thinking about building a larger poultry business in the Bono region, our partner and investment page sets out how we work with people who want to invest in poultry production.

Bottom line

Dormaa Ahenkro is one of the most poultry-literate towns in Ghana, which makes it a good place to farm and a demanding place to compete. The farmers who do well here focus on healthy chicks, disciplined feeding, strict biosecurity and a clear market in mind. Agro Prime Ghana can supply the chicks, the pullets and the feed, and arrange delivery from Kasoa. The next step is simple: tell us what you want to raise, and we will confirm the rest in writing.

Frequently asked questions

How much do day-old chicks cost for Dormaa delivery?
We do not publish a price on this page, because it changes with breed, season, order size and feed costs. Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) with your breed and quantity, and we will send a current quote that includes the transport cost to Dormaa.
What is the minimum order?
Minimum quantities can differ by breed and by the hatch date. Tell us what you need and we will confirm the minimum for that product when you message us.
Do you deliver to Dormaa Ahenkro?
We arrange transport from our Kasoa hatchery toward the Bono region, including Dormaa. We do not promise a delivery price or day until we have your order details. When you message us we will confirm the cost, the route and the timing for Dormaa, and tell you what to expect if there is a delay.
Are the chicks vaccinated?
Ask us for the exact vaccination record for the batch you are ordering before you commit, so you know what has been given and what your own vaccination schedule should be. We will answer that question directly on WhatsApp.
Should I buy broiler or layer chicks?
Broilers are for meat and turn over in about six to eight weeks, so they suit farmers who can keep to a strict feeding schedule. Layers take around 18 to 20 weeks to lay and suit a longer egg business. If you want eggs sooner, point-of-lay pullets skip most of the rearing. Tell us your goal and we will advise.
How far ahead should I order?
As early as you can. Hatching runs to a schedule, and the trip to Dormaa from Kasoa is long, so an early order gives us time to confirm the breed, the week and the transport plan properly.
How do I pay?
We will confirm our payment terms when you message us, before you commit to an order. We would rather be clear about that in writing than leave it to assumptions.
What if some chicks die in transit?
Losses on a long road journey are a real risk, so we do not pretend otherwise. Ask us how losses are handled before you order, and check the birds carefully on arrival and tell us straight away if anything is wrong. We will discuss the next step with you based on what happened.
