Day-old broiler and layer chicks, point-of-lay pullets and feed for Berekum and the Bono Region, supplied from our Kasoa hatchery with delivery arranged by agreement.

If you're looking for day-old chicks in Berekum and across the Bono Region, Agro Prime Ghana supplies healthy broiler and layer chicks, point-of-lay (POL) pullets and quality feed from our hatchery in Kasoa, and we arrange delivery to Berekum and nearby towns. You order on WhatsApp, and we confirm the breed, quantity and delivery plan before you pay. Berekum is a farming town of about 62,000 people at the 2012 census, where over 70% of residents work in agriculture, and it sits in one of the country's better-known poultry districts, the Dormaa area. Because we are based in Kasoa, well over 400 kilometres away, this is a longer haul than our Accra-area orders.

From the Agro Prime Ghana team — a working hatchery in Kasoa supplying day-old chicks, point-of-lay pullets and feed across Ghana. Last updated October 2026.

Quick answer

We supply day-old broiler chicks, day-old layer chicks, point-of-lay pullets that are close to laying, and chick, grower and layer feed. This suits Bono Region households and farmers who want eggs for home and market, or meat birds for festive and market sales. To order, message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) with your breed, quantity and delivery town. We confirm availability and a current price before you pay. We are based in Kasoa and arrange transport to Berekum; because the trip is long, order a few days ahead and we will confirm the delivery cost and timing for your town when you message us.

Berekum, the Bono Region and the Dormaa poultry area

Berekum is the capital of Berekum East Municipal in the Bono Region, about 32 kilometres from Sunyani, the regional capital. Over 70% of the population, mostly rural, is engaged in agriculture, growing plantain, maize, cassava, yams and cocoyam. That makes Berekum a natural market for both layers and broilers.

Berekum also sits in the same region as one of Ghana's better-known poultry areas. Graphic Online reported in December 2022 that poultry is one of the largest economic activities in Dormaa East, with over 60 medium-to-large scale poultry farms in the district, whose capital is Wamfie. The picture is not all steady, though. In March 2023 the Bono Regional Minister told the Ghana News Agency that about 70% of poultry farms in the Dormaa Municipality had collapsed, citing shortages of soya and wheat bran for feed. Read those two reports together: the region has real poultry capacity, but it has been hit hard by feed shortages and price swings. If you are in Berekum, check what local supply is available before you commit, and treat us as one option among several, with the advantage of birds from a working hatchery.

Why the first months decide your return

Breed choice is really a question of timing. A broiler is ready for market in about six weeks, and the Cobb 500 performance supplement lists a day-42 target live weight of about 3.28 kg with a cumulative feed conversion of 1.555, as hatched, which is why broilers suit families who want meat within a single season. A layer is a much longer wait. Hy-Line's December 2025 standards guide shows lay beginning at about week 18, and about 50% of the flock laying by roughly week 20. That is why many Berekum farmers choose point-of-lay pullets: they buy birds that are already close to their first eggs and skip the longest stretch of brooding and feeding.

Egg prices add a second layer of timing risk. In November 2025 the Ghanaian Times reported that cheap eggs from Côte d'Ivoire were flooding Sunyani and Dormaa markets, with a crate that once sold for GH¢58 fetching GH¢45 to GH¢50 at the farm gate, and farmers reporting unsold eggs spoiling in storage. The lesson is not to avoid layers, but to plan around a flock that can sell through more than one channel.

How to order day-old chicks for Berekum

We confirm the important points before any money changes hands:

  • Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) with the product you want (broiler, layer, POL pullet or cockerel), the quantity, your delivery town and your preferred week.
  • We confirm availability and today's price. Chicks hatch on a schedule, so an early request gives you more choice of breed and date. We do not quote from memory; we send the current figure in writing.
  • We agree the delivery plan. You can collect from Kasoa, or we arrange transport toward Berekum and confirm the cost and timing for your exact town.
  • You confirm, and we dispatch. Birds travel in ventilated boxes. We explain how to receive them and how to settle them in the brooder.

If this is your first flock, read our guide on choosing healthy day-old chicks before you order, so you know what to look for when the boxes open.

Planning a Berekum order?

Tell us your breed, quantity and target date, and we will send you current availability, an honest quote and a delivery plan to Berekum. If you are deciding between layers and pullets, ask us which gets you to eggs sooner for your setup. Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503), or book a visit to the Kasoa hatchery if you want to see the birds in person before you commit.

Delivery to Berekum: what we can and cannot promise

We are a Kasoa hatchery, not a company with a branch in Berekum. We do not have a shop, office or outlet in the Bono Region, and we will not tell you otherwise. What we do is supply day-old chicks, pullets and feed to farmers in Berekum and the wider region, and arrange transport from Kasoa to your town. The distance is substantial, so packing, timing and the route matter. We take care to keep live birds comfortable in transit, and for larger orders we agree collection points and a schedule that works for both sides.

We will not quote a delivery price or arrival time we cannot stand behind. When you message us, we confirm the exact cost and timing for Berekum. Our day-old chick delivery guide explains how we pack and ship birds safely.

Preparing your brooder before the chicks arrive

The first week decides how a batch performs. Set the brooder up before delivery day, not after the boxes arrive. Mississippi State University Extension recommends brooder temperatures of 90–95°F in week one, dropping by about 5°F each week. Check the temperature at chick level, especially on cool nights and during harmattan. Our brooding guide covers litter, drinkers and feeders in detail, and the brooder temperature chart gives you the weekly targets.

Keep a backup heat source, since chicks chill quickly if the heat fails overnight.

Feed: the cost you will feel most

Feed is where most of your money goes, and in Ghana it is also where prices have been least predictable. Food Business MEA reported in February 2025 that maize makes up 50% to 55% of poultry feed and soybeans about 30%, and that a 50-kilogram bag of maize rose from US$16 in January to US$29 that month, according to the Association of Feed Millers of Ghana. Those figures are a snapshot of a volatile market, not a forecast, but they explain why feed planning matters more than the cost of the chicks themselves.

Plan feed by the stage of the bird, using our broiler feeding guide or layer feeding guide, and order the next stage before the current bag runs out.

Honest pricing guidance

We do not publish a fixed price list. Chick and pullet prices in Ghana move with breed, season, order size and feed costs, and a figure published today could mislead you next month. Ask us on WhatsApp for today's price for the product, quantity and delivery town you need. As a general rule, point-of-lay pullets cost more per bird than day-old chicks because they are already months grown, and very cheap chicks often mean weak or unvaccinated stock that costs more in losses than it saves.

When you budget, include feed, transport, brooding equipment and a margin for early losses.

Why buy from a working hatchery

Many suppliers resell birds; fewer actually hatch them. Buying from a working Kasoa hatchery means a known source and careful handling from hatch. If you are thinking about more than one batch, our partner and investment options are worth a look.

The bottom line

Berekum sits in a farming region with real demand for eggs and meat, and a poultry district close enough to matter, but also one that has been hit by feed shortages and price swings. Choose your product by timing: broilers for quick sales, layers for a longer egg business, and point-of-lay pullets if you want eggs sooner. Plan feed before the birds arrive, and message us for current availability and an honest quote.

Frequently asked questions

How much are day-old chicks in Berekum?
Prices depend on breed, order size, season and feed costs, so we don't publish a fixed figure that could go stale. Message us on WhatsApp for today's price for your product and quantity, and we will confirm the delivery cost to Berekum separately.
Is there a minimum order?
We handle both small household batches and larger commercial orders. Tell us how many birds you want and what you plan to do with them, and we will confirm what is workable and quote for it.
Do you deliver to Berekum?
We are based in Kasoa and arrange transport to Berekum and nearby towns in the Bono Region. We do not have a branch there. Because the trip is long, plan a few days ahead; we confirm the exact cost and timing for your town when you message us.
Are your chicks vaccinated?
Vaccination can be arranged at the hatchery. Tell us your plan when you order, and we will confirm what has been done before dispatch and what should continue on your farm, which matters more on a longer journey.
Should I choose broilers or layers?
It depends on your goal. Broilers reach market weight in about six weeks, which suits quick sales. Layers take roughly 18 to 20 weeks to reach steady laying but produce eggs for a much longer period. Point-of-lay pullets shorten the wait for eggs. Tell us your market and we will advise.
How far ahead should I order?
Order as early as you can. Chicks hatch on a schedule, popular breeds book up, and the distance to Berekum means transport is best planned a few days ahead.
How do I pay?
We agree payment on WhatsApp once you have confirmed the breed, quantity, price and delivery plan. We don't ask you to pay before those details are settled.
What if some chicks die in transit?
Healthy chicks travel well in proper ventilated boxes, but a long journey carries some risk. Ask us how we pack, how to receive the birds, and how we handle any losses. We would rather be straight with you than promise something we cannot guarantee.
