Broiler feed in Ghana is bought by stage, not as one bag, and its price moves with the feed maker, the form (mash or pellet), the bag size and the market that week. Agro Prime Ghana sells broiler feed from its Kasoa hatchery and quotes today's price on WhatsApp, so you get the figure for the bag and the week you are buying in, not an old number copied from a blog. This guide explains which feed a broiler needs at each stage, the dated market figures we could verify, and what to check on the bag before you pay. Feed is the biggest running cost on most broiler farms, so buying the right stage at the right time matters more than chasing the lowest headline price.

Quick answer
Broiler feed in Ghana is sold in stages (starter, grower and finisher, or the equivalent names on each maker's bag). We sell broiler feed from our Kasoa hatchery, and we do not publish a fixed bag price here, because prices change with the maker, bag size and season. The most recent dated figure we could verify is that a 50 kg maize bag, a major feed ingredient, rose from US$16 in January to US$29 by September (2024), as reported in February 2025. For today's price on the bag you need, message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) and tell us your flock size and the stage you need.
Broiler feed comes in stages, and each stage has a job
A broiler does not eat the same feed from day one to slaughter. Its appetite and nutrient needs change quickly, so feed makers split the programme into stages, each with its own protein and energy level. The names differ between brands, but the logic is the same: a small, nutrient-dense feed for the first weeks, a middle feed while the bird builds frame and muscle, and a finishing feed for the final stretch before sale.
The growth table from the Cobb500 performance supplement shows why the stages matter. A Cobb 500 eats about 167 g per bird by day 7, about 542 g by day 14 and about 1.19 kg by day 21. By day 42 its cumulative intake reaches about 4.79 kg. Put another way, roughly three-quarters of the feed a bird eats in six weeks is eaten after day 21. That is why the later-stage bags make up most of your feed spend, and why it pays to check your grower and finisher price per kilogram as carefully as the starter.
What is happening to feed prices, with the dates
Feed prices in Ghana have been volatile, and most of the pressure traces back to ingredients. A February 2025 report on Ghana's poultry sector quoted the Association of Feed Millers of Ghana saying that a 50 kg bag of maize rose from US$16 in January to US$29 over the period that ended in September, which is roughly an 81 per cent increase. The same report says maize makes up about 50 to 55 per cent of poultry feed and soybean about 30 per cent, so a jump in either grain goes straight into the bag. The article also cites a USDA figure of about US$18 for a 50 kg maize bag in 2023.
These are US dollar figures, dated to 2023 and 2024. We could not verify a current, dated cedi price for a broiler feed bag, so we have not put a GH¢ number on the page. If you are budgeting, use the ingredient trend as a warning sign: check your feed cost per kilogram every month, not once a year.

| Stage | Roughly when it is used | What it is for | What to check on the bag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | First weeks, while the chick is small and building its gut | Dense nutrition for fast early growth; cumulative intake is still small (about 1.2 kg per bird by day 21 in the Cobb table) | Protein and energy levels, particle size (mash or crumble), and manufacturing date |
| Grower | Middle weeks, as the bird builds frame and muscle | Balanced feed for steady weight gain at a lower cost than starter | That the stage name and age range match your breed guide; no mixing with leftover starter |
| Finisher | Final weeks before sale | Supports the last push in weight; grower and finisher together carry the bulk of the feed (in the Cobb table, about 75 per cent of day-42 intake is eaten after day 21) | Freshness, storage conditions, and whether the price per kg is competitive against the other two stages |
How to compare broiler feed prices properly
A cheap bag can be expensive feed. Compare price per kilogram, not price per bag, and make sure the bags you compare are the same stage and the same form. Then check the three things that decide whether a feed works for your birds:
- Stage and age range. A finisher bag used at day 10 will not give the growth a starter gives, and a starter used at day 35 is poor value. Use the stage at the age printed on the bag, or the one your breed guide recommends.
- Form and particle size. Mash and crumble behave differently in the feeder and in how much the birds waste. Chicks in the first days need a size they can eat easily.
- Freshness and storage. Feed that has been in a hot, damp store can lose quality and attract mould. Buy in quantities you can use within a sensible period and keep bags off the floor and dry.
If you are new to broilers, our broiler feeding guide for Ghana walks through feed stages week by week, and the brooding guide explains how to set up the first days so the starter feed is eaten properly.
How to order broiler feed from Agro Prime
We sell broiler feed as part of our hatchery supply, and you can also collect it at the Kasoa hatchery. To get an accurate price and a clear plan, send us the following on WhatsApp:
- Your flock. Breed (for example Cobb 500 or Ross 308), number of birds, and the age they are now.
- The stage you need. Starter, grower or finisher, and how many bags of each you want.
- Your timing. When you need the feed, so we can confirm it is ready for that date.
- Your location. Whether you will collect in Kasoa or need delivery, and to which town.
We confirm the price for that bag, the total, and the delivery or collection arrangement in writing before you pay. We will not hold a price open or create urgency to close a sale.
Get today's broiler feed price
Feed prices move, so the honest answer is always the current one. Message us on WhatsApp (+233 24 915 1503) with your breed, bird numbers and the stage you need, and we will quote the bag, the total and the delivery or collection option. If you would rather see the feed and talk through the stages, book a visit to the Kasoa hatchery.
Delivery, collection and what it means for your price
In Kasoa, you can collect feed at the hatchery. For customers elsewhere in Ghana, we can arrange transport, and the cost depends on your town and the quantity. We will confirm delivery to your area when you message us, rather than promise a figure here. Ask for the delivery cost and the expected timing as part of the quote, so the feed price you compare is the landed price you actually pay.
Keep your feed dry and out of the sun when it arrives, and count bags against the delivery note. If a bag looks damp, torn or unusual, tell us the same day so we can look at it with you.
Thinking about the business as well as the bag?
Feed is where a broiler business is won or lost. Working out your feed cost per bird, and your margin per bird at market weight, is the first calculation anyone planning a flock should make. Our poultry business plan guide for Ghana shows how to build that calculation, and if you are looking at a larger venture, the partner and investment page explains how we work with people who want to grow.
Bottom line
Broiler feed in Ghana is a stage-by-stage purchase. Buy the right stage at the right age, compare price per kilogram, keep the feed fresh and dry, and check your cost monthly, because the ingredient market moves. We do not publish a fixed bag price, because that would be a guess, and the honest route is a current quote. Message us on WhatsApp and we will give you one for your flock.
