What a Hatchery Visit Actually Looks Like

Booked visits run weekday mornings, Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm. Here is the honest shape of the hour you will spend with us in Kasoa — and what to bring, ask and watch for. You will meet the team that sets the incubators, gives the day-zero vaccinations and rides with the delivery runs, so every question on this page can be asked to the person who does the work. Visitors who book for a Thursday see the full cycle: trays coming off the hatcher, chicks being graded and counted, boxes being sealed for the day's Accra runs. It is one hour that replaces a week of guessing — and it is the same hour we recommend you spend at any hatchery you are considering, ours included.

Arrive early, especially Thursdays

Hatch mornings are the best mornings — the day's batch is coming off the trays, being vaccinated, graded and counted in front of you. You will see the whole standard in one hour.

Come clean, for the birds' sake

Biosecurity protects your future chicks as much as ours: clean clothes and shoes, and no visits to other poultry farms that day. We will ask — any hatchery that doesn't is cutting the same corner somewhere else.

Ask the four questions

Hatch date (ours: Thursday, 7am). Vaccination record (written, per batch). Candled, graded, counted (yes, all three). And ask again at any hatchery you visit — good hatcheries enjoy these questions; the others change the subject.

Drive home with your flock

Most Accra visitors are there and back in a morning with their birds in ventilated boxes — 30 km each way, roughly 45 minutes. Or leave the driving to us: delivery to your part of Greater Accra is quoted live with your order.

Four Questions That Expose a Fake Hatchery in Ghana

The chick trade has sellers who never see an egg. These four questions, asked in order, sort the hatcheries from the phone numbers. Ask them of us too — our answers are on this page and at the gate.

1. "When did these birds hatch?"

A real hatchery has a hatch day it can name without thinking — ours is Thursday, ready from 7am. Vague answers ("day-old", "fresh", "this week") mean the birds have been sitting in someone's holding pen, aging by the hour while the price stays the same.

2. "What was vaccinated — exactly?"

"Vaccinated" alone is a red flag. The answer should name diseases and a timing: for us, Marek at day zero in the hatchery, Newcastle and Gumboro by batch, recorded in writing for every order. Your vet needs that record to plan the rest of the programme.

3. "Candled, graded, counted?"

Three words that cost a seller nothing if he does them and everything if he doesn't. Candled eggs mean no empty air in your box. Graded chicks mean weaklings never leave the hatchery. Counted batches mean the number you paid for is the number that arrives. We do all three before dispatch, every Thursday.

4. "Can I visit before I buy?"

The question that ends most fake-hatchery conversations. A working hatchery has incubators to show and nothing to hide — book a visit to ours from Accra in one 45-minute drive. If a seller's "hatchery" is always too busy, too far, or "being disinfected this week," you have your answer.

Collect or delivered — your call

Two Ways Accra Gets Its Chicks

Every Thursday the same hatch feeds both paths: the drive-out visitors collecting ventilated boxes at the gate, and the delivery van running the short local route into the city. Same birds, same vaccination records, same counted batches — only the last 30 km differs.

Typical transitAbout 45 minutes
Delivery tierShort local run

Collecting suits the buyer who wants to see the hatchery once and carry the birds personally — hatch-day pickups run from 7am Thursday, and you watch your own batch counted into the boxes. Delivery suits everyone else: we run to Madina, Adenta, Spintex, Dansoman, Achimota and the wider Greater Accra ring, quoted live with your order, never added at the gate.

Whichever you choose, the order flow is the same three steps we publish everywhere: message with breed and quantity → confirm date and live price → collect or receive, with free brooding, feed and vaccination advice attached. The advice is not a courtesy script — it is the same guidance our blog publishes in full, from the brooder temperature curve to the day-2 crop-fill check, delivered by the people who hatched your specific batch. Buyers who collect on Thursdays also get the practical advantage of watching the counting happen in front of them, which is the oldest transparency technology there is: no app, no dashboard, just you, the boxes and the birds.

The Breeds Waiting in Kasoa Every Thursday

Six lines hatch here weekly, all vaccinated at the hatchery and candled, graded and counted before they leave. Published starting prices below — live prices for your quantity come by WhatsApp before you commit, and the quote states breed, quantity, unit price and total, so the number you verified on your visit is the number you pay. Most Accra collectors check two or three breeds against their market before booking; the table makes that comparison honest, and the WhatsApp thread finishes it with today's real prices.

The honest picture

Why "Hatchery Near Accra" Is the Search That Matters

Accra's buyers hold the strongest hand in Ghana's chick market and rarely play it. Geography is the reason — and it is worth understanding before you spend.

Distance is the whole game

A day-old chick has one fragile asset: hours. Every hour between hatch and brooder spends that asset. The Kasoa hatchery sits 30 km from Accra — about 45 minutes — which means the birds reaching your farm are the same hours-old birds that left the tray. Compare that with stock that has ridden markets and holding pens for days, and you understand why our Accra customers see some of the calmest first weeks in the trade.

This is also why we encourage visits. A supplier 30 km away who won't open the gate is failing a test that distance makes easy. Take the test for yourself.

What we won't claim

We won't claim to be the biggest hatchery in Ghana, the cheapest box on the market, or the only honest one — there are serious operators in this country and we respect them. We claim exactly this: a working, visitable hatchery 45 minutes from Accra, hatching every Thursday, vaccinating at day zero, counting honestly, and answering the phone after the sale.

If a cheaper option honestly fits your situation, we will say so — our regulars know this about us. What we sell is verifiability, and verifiability is 30 km away.

Every Accra buyer type

Who Drives Out to Kasoa — and What Each One Asks

Our Accra visitors sort into four kinds, and each asks a different first question. Find yours — it will save you the second trip.

The first-time backyard keeper

Usually 50 birds, a coop behind the house, questions about everything. Our advice: visit on a Thursday, see a real hatch, and ask the "stupid" questions — the ones that save flocks. Our brooding guides were written for exactly this buyer, and free advice comes with every order however small.

The burned-before buyer

Already lost a batch to market stock and wants to see vaccination records with their own eyes. This visitor asks about Marek dates and batch counts — and gets written answers. We like this buyer most; they verify everything, and verification is our whole pitch.

The growing semi-commercial farm

Amasaman and Ga East growers scaling from hundreds to thousands, planning batch cycles around festive demand. They ask about pre-booking against the Thursday hatch and mixing breeds in one order — both fine, subject to hatch schedule, and best arranged early in the week.

The agrovet or reseller

Shops that resell chicks need standing supply and honest counts — their name rides on every box they hand a farmer. We supply agrovets across the regions; message your location and volumes and we will discuss schedule and arrangement.

Inside the Agro Prime hatchery in Kasoa, Ghana

Hatched and handled by our own team in Kasoa

Agro Prime is a working hatchery, not a reseller. Our team runs computer-controlled incubators on a weekly hatch cycle, vaccinates every batch at the hatchery, and candles, grades and counts the day-old chicks before they leave us. Because we hatch locally, your birds are hours old — not days into a long import journey — when they reach you.

From our gate to your brooder

The 30-Minute Drive Home Is the Easy Part — the Brooder Is Where Flocks Are Won

Collecting hours-old birds is the best possible start; what happens in the first 72 hours decides whether it stays that way. These are the numbers we hand every visitor at the gate, from our own published guides.

First daysBird-level targetWhat good looks like
Pre-arrival33–35°CBrooder pre-heated a full 24 hours — warm litter and walls, not just warm air
Day 1–333–35°CChicks in a loose ring, eating, drinking, resting in small groups
Week 132–34°CActive at the feeders, quiet contented cheeping, no huddling
Week 229–31°CFree movement across the whole guard; first feathers showing
Week 3–427→24°CHeat off for most Ghanaian houses by week 4

From our week-by-week brooder temperature chart — measure at chick level, 5cm above the litter, and trust bird behaviour over the dial.

Read the huddle

Piled tight under the lamp = cold. Panting at the walls = hot. Even spread = right. Two minutes of watching, twice a day, catches every temperature mistake before it costs birds.

Water before feed

Drinkers filled 2–3 hours before arrival so water is brooder-warm. Dip beaks on arrival — a chick that learns to drink in the first hour has already won half its first week.

40–50 per m², week one

Stocking density with dry litter and clean water in reach. Crowding is a false economy — it pays you back in coccidiosis, smothering and uneven weights.

The WhatsApp thread stays open

Crop-fill check on day 2, a temperature question on day 4 — message the team that hatched your birds. Advice is free, and it comes with every order.

Hatchery Visits — Questions From Accra Buyers

Everything Accra visitors ask before their first trip to Kasoa. Yours not here? Ask it — an answer costs nothing.

How far is the hatchery from Accra?
About 30 km — Agro Prime's Kasoa hatchery sits on Accra's western edge, roughly a 45-minute run from the city. Most Accra visitors drive out and back in a single morning.
Can I visit the hatchery before I buy?
Yes. Book a farm visit on the site and see the incubators, brooding rooms and the birds before you order. Seeing a working hatchery is the fastest way to know whether a supplier is real — and the visit costs you nothing but the fuel. Bring clean clothes and shoes for biosecurity, come on a Thursday if you can, and ask the four questions on this page while you are standing in the incubator hall. The answers should come easily to anyone running a real operation; hesitation is information too.
Do you vaccinate at the hatchery?
Yes — Marek typically, and often Newcastle and Gumboro depending on the batch. We tell you exactly what was given for every batch, in writing, so you can plan the rest of the programme with your vet.
Can I collect chicks on hatch day instead of waiting for delivery?
Yes — pickup at the Kasoa hatchery is welcome, and hatch day is Thursday with chicks ready from 7am. Collecting same-morning birds is the freshest possible start for your flock.
What should I ask any hatchery before buying?
Ask what was vaccinated and when. Ask the hatch date, not just the age. Ask whether chicks were candled, graded and counted. Ask to visit. Any hatchery that hesitates on these four questions is telling you something — and in Ghana's chick market the hesitation is often the most honest part of the conversation. Write the answers down, compare them with what arrives, and you will never buy blind twice.
