Poultry Feed in Accra — The Same Feed We Trust for Our Own Flocks, Delivered to Your Farm With Your Chicks.

Feed is most of the cost of every bird you raise — more than the chick, more than the medicine — and it is the input where quality is hardest to see and easiest to fake. A cut-protein bag looks identical to an honest one right up until your growth curve flattens, which is why the supplier behind the bag matters more than the number on it. Agro Prime's farm store stocks broiler starter and finisher, layer mash and chick starter: the same lines our own Kasoa flocks run on, sold by the bag or in bulk, delivered to Greater Accra in about 45 minutes — on its own, or riding the same order as your day-old chicks so your starter week starts fully stocked.

Every Phase of Every Flock — Matched to the Birds We Hatch

Feed is phase-specific: the wrong line at the wrong week costs growth, eggs or both. These are the four lines we stock, what each is for, and who should be buying them.

Chick starter feed
Weeks 0–4

Chick Starter

Day-old to 6–8 weeks for layers; brooding start for all chicks. High protein for frame and immune system — the feed that decides whether the rest of the cycle has a foundation. Starter is the most commonly under-fed phase in Ghanaian poultry: the bags are small, the birds are small, and the temptation to move to cheaper feed early is enormous. Every week cut from starter is a week of frame and immunity the flock never gets back — the layer that enters grower underweight lays like a bird that entered grower underweight, and the broiler that starts behind never quite catches the curve. Budget the full starter phase before the chicks arrive, not after.

Broiler starter feed
Weeks 0–3

Broiler Starter

The broiler's launch phase. High-protein starter that sets the growth curve — realistic Ghana targets put a week-3 broiler at 820–920 g on good starter, and the gap between that number and what your batch actually weighs is the earliest honest review of your feed decision you will ever get. Broiler starter is also where feed fraud bites hardest, because the difference between real and cut protein is invisible in the bag and obvious on the scale three weeks later. Buy starter from a supplier whose own flocks eat it — then weigh your birds and hold everyone, us included, to the number.

Layer mash feed
Laying flocks

Layer Mash

The laying flock's daily bread. Calcium-balanced for shell strength — the feed behind the strong-shelled crates the Accra market pays for. Layer mash is the one feed line you buy continuously for months, which makes it the line where supplier consistency compounds: a flock that eats the same quality mash all season lays like a flock that ate consistently, and one that rode price swings across three suppliers lays like a flock that didn't. Shell quality drops before egg counts do — thin shells are the early warning that the calcium or the feed changed before anyone announced it.

Live priceQuote
Broiler finisher feed
Weeks 5–6

Broiler Finisher

The market-weight sprint. The final phase feed that carries a broiler batch from grower to the 2.3–2.55 kg day-42 target. Finisher is the least glamorous bag and the most scrutinized moment of the cycle: the weights you sell are the weights this feed paid for, and the last week of feed conversion is what decides whether the batch was a business or a break-even. Do not shortcut the transition into finisher, and do not stretch finisher past your sale date — a bird eating market-grade feed with no market date is money leaving in both directions.

Live priceQuote

Prices move with maize, soya and the cedi — for orientation, the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association currently lists layer mash around GH¢357–367 and broiler starter around GH¢400–410 per bag. Your live WhatsApp quote for your volumes and delivery area is the exact number, in writing.

Why buy feed from a farm

Feed Quality Is Invisible — Until It Isn't. Here's How a Farm-Supplier Removes the Guesswork.

A bag of feed reveals almost nothing to the eye: cut protein, underweight bags and stale stock all look exactly like good feed until your birds tell you otherwise, weeks too late. Buying from a working farm changes the incentive structure behind the bag.

We eat our own cooking

The feed on our store shelf is the feed our own Kasoa flocks run on — the same broiler starter behind our growth targets, the same layer mash behind our egg crates. A supplier who feeds his own birds what he sells you has no margin for a bad bag; a pure reseller has no such check on his shelf, and the difference is not sentimental but structural: when a bad batch arrives at our store, our own flocks eat the consequences weeks before any customer does, which means the quality control happens whether or not anyone is watching. That is the entire argument for buying inputs from a working farm, and it is the argument we would make even if we were not the farm making it.

Stock that turns over

Feed ages — vitamins decay, fats go rancid, and in our humidity mould is a constant threat. A store attached to a working farm turns stock weekly because the farm itself consumes it; a quiet shop's deepest shelf can be quietly months old. Ask any supplier how fast their feed moves; the answer matters more than the price on the bag.

Advice matched to the phase

Which feed, when to transition, how much a 300-bird broiler batch actually consumes by week — the team answering your WhatsApp is the team that runs these numbers on live flocks. Phase feeding is where budgets are won; wrong transitions are where they quietly bleed, and the bleeding is always deniable: no single late transition looks like a disaster, it just looks like birds that finished a bit light, a bit late, for reasons nobody can name. Name them. The whole phase-feeding schedule is published in our guides; take it, run it, and message us when your flock's numbers disagree with the chart — that conversation is free and it is the best feed review you will ever get.

One order, one delivery

Feed, feeders, drinkers, vaccines — ride the same delivery as your chicks, or arrive on their own weekly run. Either way: one written quote, one delivery fee, one number that holds at the gate. The alternative is three suppliers, three schedules and three opportunities for a batch to stall.

The honest math

What Feed Actually Costs Per Bird — the Numbers Behind Every Flock Decision

"How much is a bag?" is the wrong first question. The right one is "how many bags does my flock eat?" — because feed is billed per bag but spent per bird, and the per-bird number is where farms are won or lost. Two farms paying the same bag price can run wildly different economics purely on conversion: the flock that turns feed into weight efficiently eats less per bird sold, which is a saving no discount can match. The table below gives the orientation figures; your flock's real numbers, weighed weekly, are the ones that should drive your buying.

Flock typeFeed per bird (orientation)What decides the total
Broiler to day 42~4.3–4.7 kg cumulativeStarter/grower/finisher transitions on schedule — late transitions waste protein money, early ones waste growth
Layer chick to point of lay~7 kg through brooding and growingEven frame growth in the quiet weeks — skimping here surfaces months later in the laying curve
Layer in production~110–120 g/dayConsistency: full feeders of quality mash, every day, is the whole trick
Noiler / dual-purposeLower than broiler, slower payoutHardy birds still eat honest quantities — budget for the full cycle, not the optimistic one

Orientation figures from our published guides and farm experience — run your own flock's numbers from the calculator below, then weigh weekly and compare. Your feed conversion is the most honest performance review your farm ever gets.

The price-follows-maize rule

Feed moves with maize, soya and the cedi — the same inputs every Ghanaian miller faces. A feed price that never moves is a supplier who is cutting something invisible to make the number hold. Watch the GAPFA orientation prices; hold your supplier's quotes against them.

The transition tax

Every phase change done late or abrupt costs growth you never see leave. Transition over 3–5 days, mix old and new lines, and let the birds' behaviour — not the calendar alone — confirm the switch.

Weigh-in weekly

Bird weight against feed consumed is your conversion ratio — the single number that tells you whether the bag you bought is performing like the price you paid. Ten minutes with a scale, once a week.

The Agro Prime farm in Kasoa — the flocks behind the feed we stock

Stocked by a working farm, not a catalogue

Agro Prime's farm store exists because our own flocks needed a supplier that could not fail them. Every feed line we stock is one our Kasoa birds eat — the starter behind our published growth targets, the layer mash behind our egg crates. When you buy feed from us, the quality argument is the same one our farm makes to itself every week.

Feed Storage in Ghana's Climate — the Half of the Feed Budget Nobody Budgets

The feed you lose to damp, mould and pests is bought at full price and returns nothing. In coastal humidity these rules are not optional — they are the difference between a bag that lasts and a bag that costs you a vet visit. Every Accra feed buyer eventually learns one of two ways that storage is part of the purchase: the cheap way, by pallet-raiseing the bags the day they arrive, or the expensive way, by explaining to a vet why a flock eating "good feed" keeps losing condition. The four habits below are the cheap way, written down.

Off the floor, off the wall

Bags on pallets, stacked clear of walls so air moves. The floor is where condensation collects; a bag resting on it drinks that damp and starts the aflatoxin clock.

Buy to consumption

Match purchases to what your birds eat in two to three weeks, not what fits the store. Fresh stock is a feed-quality strategy, and it costs nothing but planning.

Smell before you feed

Musty, sour or "just off" smell means the bag has turned — do not feed it and hope. Aflatoxin is invisible, cumulative and the most expensive cheap feed decision there is.

Rats eat first

Rodents cost you twice — what they eat and what they contaminate. A clean, sealed, pallet-raise store with feed bought in short cycles leaves them nothing to hold a population on.

Straight answers

Poultry Feed in Accra — Questions Buyers Ask Every Week

The questions Accra's feed buyers actually ask, answered the way we answer them on WhatsApp — with real numbers where numbers exist and honest "it depends" where they don't. Feed questions are budget questions wearing overalls, so ask the biggest ones before you buy, not after: phase timing, consumption volumes, storage, delivery schedules. If yours isn't here, ask it directly — an answer costs nothing, and a feed budget built on guesses is the most expensive kind.

Which poultry feeds do you stock?
The Agro Prime farm store stocks broiler starter, broiler finisher, layer mash and chick starter — the same feed lines we trust for our own flocks — plus feeders, drinkers and vaccines.
Do you sell feed by the bag or in bulk?
Both. Backyard keepers buy by the bag; commercial farms and resellers order bulk. WhatsApp +49 151 68495881 with your volumes for a live quote delivered to Accra.
Can you deliver feed together with my chick order?
Yes — and it saves you a trip. Add your starter feed, feeders and drinkers to the same order as your chicks and everything arrives together on delivery day.
How should I store feed to keep it fresh?
Off the floor on pallets, in a dry, ventilated store, away from walls — and buy to your birds' consumption, not to hoard. Damp feed grows mould and aflatoxin fast in our climate. Our blog's feed-storage guide covers the details.
How much does poultry feed cost in Accra?
Feed prices move with maize, soya and the cedi — we quote live by WhatsApp for your volumes and delivery area. For orientation, the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association currently lists layer mash around GH¢357–367 and broiler starter around GH¢400–410 per bag.
